Climate in Budapest

For our my Action Project in the course H20, we looked at factors that influence the weather and how the weather patterns. The project was to take a close look at a city I chose Budapest, and I made predictions as to what the future would look like for the city and what steps we can to bring changes. There was a lot of research and reading, I learned a lot about this city in Hungary. I am Happy with the outcome of the project and how my visuals turned out.

Stopping HIV and AIDS

This is the third and final action project for MDGs. The MDGs class focused on each and every goal. We discussed them and thought about what we could do to achieve these new goals. This class helped me understand the world better. I now understand where we are in economic and development growth. I think taking this MDG class changed me and changed the way I think about the world. This final topic I chose is about stopping HIV and AIDS. We had to choose one goal between #6, #7, or #8. I chose number six. I chose number six because HIV and AIDS are a very serious disease and needs to be talked about. I used Greece as an example country for my AP3. Learning about the side effects of HIV and AIDS was the hardest for me because it is such a sad topic. The easiest and best part of this AP3 was to finally understand and learn the ways to prevent HIV and AIDS. (PVU, 2015) Stopping HIV and AIDS "Fifty thousand people get infected with HIV each year. In 2010, there ...

My Water Filter

Image
This is the second AP of unit two for the fall course of water (H2O.) The project was to make a water filter that would turn contaminated water into clean water. The part that I didn’t do very well was making the water filter; I used regular charcoal instead of activated charcoal. The charcoal made the water really dirty. I knew how to create a water filter, but I looked online for a template on how to build one. Something that I did wrong that made my outcome less successful was that I guided the water through the filter so it would flow quicker and easier. I liked building the water filter; I used a soda bottle, and natural materials from Home Depot. I built the filter with my dad. I did the work and he gave suggestions. I ran my water cycle four times and none of the four trials supported my predictions. (PVU, October 2015) The filter that I built used natural materials to filter the contaminated water. Larger gaps filter larger particles and smaller gaps filter smaller part...

Gender Equality in the U.S. and Sweden

Image
For my project for MDGs we were studying Gender equality in the world. The reason I wrote this essay was to compare the U.S. and Sweden in terms of gender equality. We had to use the U.S. and another country that we could compare our point to. I learned that there are some countries that don't share gender equality at all. The part of this project that was the most challenging, was trying to find another country that is like the U.S. for gender equality. What I'm the most proud of is that the U.S. isn't doing the worst in gender equality, our country is improving in this area. (Spearshott, Jeffery. "Women Earn 81.9 Cents for Every Dollar a Man Earns." Real Time Economics RSS. N.p., n.d. Web. 23 Oct. 2015.) (Spearshott, Jeffery. "Women Earn 81.9 Cents for Every Dollar a Man Earns." The Right for Child Education

Image
For unit 1 I learned about Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and the eight MDG goals. For this project I wrote a persuasive essay on one of three topic choices. I talked about the right for child education. I talked about ways we can help children who aren't being given an education. I learned so much from this course, I learned about different ways the world is dealing with child education. Also I learned about how many kids don't get an education. The most challenging part of this essay was researching, and learning how many kids don't go to school. PVU, Child Education, (2015) The Right of a Free Education All kids should get a right of free education. If they get free education they will be able to make a difference in the world. How many kids in the world don’t attend school? The Guardian news article says, “the world has 70 billion people, and 3% of kids in the world don’t go to school.” This means 3% of our future is not getting an education, because they ca...

What is water to us?

For my first unit in Water, I learned about h2o and water consumption in our STEAM course. I learned about how slowly water is slowly disappearing. I am proud of learning about how we can save water in the world. For the visual aspect of the project we had to create a poster, which is in the lengths 28x11.  I also went through the trouble of creating a Prezi presentation to give a better understanding of what I've learned. Some of the difficulties were creating the prezi.  I used Prezi. Some of the good things to my project were helping the world and me understand water to a better level.
