Where I Come From

This is my first Action Project for my last term, Food. In this course we are studying food and where it comes from, history of the food and framing. For this Action Project we had to choose an ingredient and write about it in first person. We had to research a lot about our ingredient and the center origin of it. I liked learning a lot about my family's spice. I had run into a couple problems because my grandparents don't speak the best English. Overall it was a cool project, and I am looking forward to doing it again.

Sustainable Home Garden

Image
Food is my last STEAM course in my freshmen year at GCE. For my first action project, I am creating an organic garden that will be planted in my backyard at home. Based on the location of my garden I had to change a few things due to that fact that I live in the city. My backyard gets a lot of sun so it is an ideal location for my garden. I will water my plants when it does not rain, but I will rely on nature to nurture my garden. I’ve learned in the first unit about plant nutrients, symbiotic relationships, plants, and types of gardening shown by Masanobu Fukuoka. I hope that my garden is going to turn out healthy and stable. I am not going to add any chemicals or pesticides to my garden because it can affect my plants and soil. I was super inspired by Ron Finley’s speech about expanding gardening in Los Angeles. Ron Finley plants vegetable gardens all around South Central L.A. He plants them in abandoned lots, traffic medians, along the curbs, etc. He does this for beauty and to of...

Pollution In Our Everyday Life

Image
This is my third and final Action Project for my STEAM course Fuel. I learned about inequalities and pollution in our everyday life. For this Action Project, I had to make an action plan paper about how we can stop pollution from happening. My favorite part of this Action Project was learning about all the different ways we pollute and the solutions. I also really enjoyed taking a class trip to Tesla and getting a free test ride. This was a fun project to make and I enjoyed learning about the different ways to prevent pollution. The hardest part for me was researching the different ideas I had. I hope you enjoy my pollution action plan paper. Pollution In Our Everyday Life PVU 3/16/16 Pollution Action Plan Pollution consists of waste products that are harmful to the environment. Pollution is released into our environment daily without us even thinking about it. The biggest amount of pollution comes from man-made sources like factories, cars, trucks, and other vehicles, ...

Dreams

In unit 3 for my Who am I? class, I learned about dreams and the meanings behind dreams. We were exploring different ways to look at dreams and interpret them. For my third, and final action project we were instructed to build our own dream catcher. I liked being able to customize my own dreamcatcher to whatever I wanted. I wanted to incorporate different aspects of my athletic career and dreams. I had never built a dream catcher before. At first I had a really hard time figuring out what I wanted to represent. I was also worried that I would not do it well enough. I was happy with the outcome of my dreamcatcher. (PVU, 2016, Dreamcatcher) In the center of my dream catcher I have a necklace piece that I wear to this day. Whenever I had that bracelet on me I knew I could do anything. My life motto is “don’t give up anything is possible and I can do anything.” Whenever I wore the necklace it gave me dreams and visions of my future. For some reason when I would take it off I could ...

What Makes Us Decide What’s Right and What’s Wrong?

In my second unit of my Who Am I, I learned about philosophers and doubt. For this Action Project, I made a slide show about "What makes us decide what's right and wrong." I thought this was a cool action project. This was pretty easy to make, but it had some troubles. The hardest part of my project was to think about my everyday decisions and the process I take to make those decisions.

Buying Wind Power

This is my second Action Project for my STEAM course fuel. I learned about functions,  renewable and non-renewable energy.   For this Action Project, I had to make an infomercial about if we were presenting our idea to a conference. My favorite part of this Action Project was learning about how much energy I use and how I could save with renewable energy. It was a fun project to make. The hardest part for me was the researching the break-even point.

Truth

In my first unit of my Who Am I, I learned about philosophers and truth. For this Action Project, I made a podcast about standardised tests. I thought this was a cool action project. This was pretty easy to make, but it had some troubles. The hardest part of my project was to right my script.
