For this elective term, I have been taking a STEAM course called Game Changers. In this elective course, we have been learning about games and game design. Some of these games include tabletop games like a board, dice, and card games. We learned about game creation and how to innovate and invent our own games. We were also able to make our own tabletop games. One of our field experiences was to go to CHITAG (Chicago Toy and Game Fair) and present our game. While we were there we were able to get lots of feedback for how to make our games better. I was on of the lucky ones who also got an interview with a couple of different television companies. We learned about what an elevator pitch was and how it’s so useful when selling your idea. For this Action Project, we were supposed to produce our final version of our games. For this elective term, I have been taking a STEAM course called Game Changers. In this elective course, we have been learning about games and game design. Some of these games include tabletop games like a board, dice, and card games. We learned about game creation and how to innovate and invent our own games. Throughout learning how to create games, we played multiple different types of games. One of the reasons we played games was to figure how each game worked. We also had a Skype interview with Jay Little, the creator of many popular role-playing games such as Edge Of The Empire Roleplaying Game. Jay gave us very insightful information about the game including design, elevator pitch, and marketing strategies. For this Action Project, we are recommending games to some kind of social program. In my class Digital Media, in my Elective Term, we are learning about how to publish a blog post. We are learning about the proper ways to publish slide shows and projects. We took a quiz to test our knowledge about blogging. I have created a slide show about the basics of Fencing. I hope you enjoy!

For the last unit in my STEAM elective Biomimicry, I learned about the decomposers and how their activities keep the world in motion. For this Action Project, I chose a product and followed it from the start to finish. I redesigned the product with a sustainable process that nature uses, and I came up with my product's life cycle. It is much more closed off and ecofriendly. It reuses and repurposes materials and rethinks processes. I found it very nice to have an idea that was original. I also think it really is something that could sell on the market. The market could actually benefit from this new product.  

(PVU, 2016, Jan 15) In my last unit of the STEAM elective, Rapid Prototyping, we learned about safety and tools. For my final Action Project, the class and I were looking at any needs for our school’s new building. On one of our FE’s, we went to the Rebuilding Exchange where I met Bryant Williams who is the Executive Director. He shared some words of wisdom that stood out to me, but the coolest statement he said was, “recycling is not the answer, reusing is the answer.” With that quote in mind, I was able to take pipes and a broom handle that were going to be recycled and used them for my project. I was browsing the internet for some inspiration for my project when I stumbled upon Wirecrafters, a company that makes and sells bike racks. Their website inspired me to build a bike rack.
