Harambe? I think not!

For my first STEAM course of my sophomore year, I am taking a class called population. In this unit we learned about different organisms' characteristics and taxonomy. Taxonomy is how scientist classify organisms. We learned about set theory and Venn diagrams. We then applied set theory, Venn diagrams, and taxonomy to our projects. I chose the Chimpanzee, also known as Pan. I researched its taxonomy and key characteristics. We then made a mosaic art piece of our animal, in this case mine was a Chimpanzee. This was the hardest part of the project for me. I am not good at making mosaics but I pushed through it telling myself I can do it! My motto in life is “I can do all things.” -Paul VU I think at the end the mosaic turned out really nice, and I certainly think this was the best part of my project. Enjoy! Aaron Logon. Pollution In Our Everyday Life

This is my third and final Action Project for my STEAM course Fuel. I learned about inequalities and pollution in our everyday life. For this Action Project, I had to make an action plan paper about how we can stop pollution from happening. My favorite part of this Action Project was learning about all the different ways we pollute and the solutions. I also really enjoyed taking a class trip to Tesla and getting a free test ride. This was a fun project to make and I enjoyed learning about the different ways to prevent pollution. The hardest part for me was researching the different ideas I had. For the last unit in my STEAM elective Biomimicry, I learned about the decomposers and how their activities keep the world in motion. For this Action Project, I chose a product and followed it from the start to finish. I redesigned the product with a sustainable process that nature uses, and I came up with my product's life cycle. It is much more closed off and ecofriendly. It reuses and repurposes materials and rethinks processes. I found it very nice to have an idea that was original. I also think it really is something that could sell on the market. The market could actually benefit from this new product.  

Aloe Vera

This is the first Action project for the winter term electives, Biomimicry. In the first unit, we learned about nature and how the Fibonacci sequence is involved in nature. This AP1 is a design something that solves a problem by using plant. By using the Aloe Vera plant I was able to incorporate a principle that I got from the aloe plant. One of the hardest parts of this AP1 was to find ideas. I talked with friends and my instructor AMD on my ideas and narrowed it down to my dog bowl. I thought I put a lot of effort in my drawings. Drawings are definitely not a strength for me. I practiced drawing the plants, so that I can draw the aloe vera plant and idea perfectly. This is my project, go check it out!

Climate in Budapest

For our my Action Project in the course H20, we looked at factors that influence the weather and how the weather patterns. The project was to take a close look at a city I chose Budapest, and I made predictions as to what the future would look like for the city and what steps we can to bring changes. There was a lot of research and reading, I learned a lot about this city in Hungary. I am Happy with the outcome of the project and how my visuals turned out.

My Water Filter

This is the second AP of unit two for the fall course of water (H2O.) The project was to make a water filter that would turn contaminated water into clean water. The part that I didn’t do very well was making the water filter; I used regular charcoal instead of activated charcoal. The charcoal made the water really dirty. I knew how to create a water filter, but I looked online for a template on how to build one. Something that I did wrong that made my outcome less successful was that I guided the water through the filter so it would flow quicker and easier. I liked building the water filter; I used a soda bottle, and natural materials from Home Depot. I built the filter with my dad. I did the work and he gave suggestions. I ran my water cycle four times and none of the four trials supported my predictions. (PVU, October 2015) The filter that I built used natural materials to filter the contaminated water. What is water to us?

For my first unit in Water, I learned about h2o and water consumption in our STEAM course. I learned about how slowly water is slowly disappearing. I am proud of learning about how we can save water in the world. For the visual aspect of the project we had to create a poster, which is in the lengths 28x11.  I also went through the trouble of creating a Prezi presentation to give a better understanding of what I've learned. Some of the difficulties were creating the prezi.  I used Prezi. Some of the good things to my project were helping the world and me understand water to a better level.
